I feel that as creators, we tend to idolize the idea of perfection. It can define the way that we create things when really that act of creation is more about exploration and the journey than the destination.
I like to consider that perfection can be kind of like a mirage. Something that you can see in the distance, something that you always want to be working toward. But not really something that you can actually reach, something that's attainable.
Because the problem with perfection is that it's really determined by the person experiencing the art. You can't make something that's perfect for everyone.
You should certainly pursue perfection, you should try to make things perfect for you. But not at the cost of projects that haven't been conceived yet. And with the understanding that something that is perfect for you is not going to resonate with everyone else the same way.
So, really I say to defy perfection, to embrace those inconsistancies and mistakes. The things that just happen during the process of creation. Because those are the things that make us human. And there are libraries of books written about how being human is being imperfect. Your art should embrace that special facet of your humanity.
So, follow the mirage, work toward that perfect project, but don't necessarily expect to ever get there. Focus on enjoying the journey rather than how great it will be when you finally reach your destination.
